English Brass Nutcrackers

Date :     Early 20th Century
Size :      13/12 cms long
Marks :    none

William Shakespeare seems to have been a great inspiration to nutcracker designers, the 1st two of these examples depict similar images (a bust of Shakespeare on the front together with a similar bust on the reverse with Anne Hathaway's Cottage), they are slightly different and of different quality . There are at least four different versions, some marked 'ENGLAND' 'CBF' and some 'ENGLAND'. As well as being sold separately, this nutcracker was available as part of a 'Nuts & Wine' set which included a corkscrew, bottle opener and a brass stand.
The third nutcracker is similar but commemorates the Battle of Waterloo with an image of Napolean. It is very poorly cast.
