A figural nutcracker depicting Tony Weller
(the coachman in Dickens' Pickwick Papers)
holding a whip and a tankard of beer,
it is painted black and appears to always have been so.
It is one of a series of Dickens characters which includes
Mr Pickwick. Other versions were made in gold-painted cast iron.
