This nutcracker has virtually identical grinning jesters on each side.
There is an identical version which is 1.5 centimetres smaller and it can also be found marked 'ENGLAND' and 'PAT APPLIED FOR'; later copies exist, probably produced in the 1950s or later, with obviously 'manufactured' grime designed to age them.
The unusual shape of these lever ends is repeated on another brass nutcracker with the face of a long-eared dog replacing the jester.
